The wines of Jean Marc Dreyer encapsulate what we are hunting for here at La Vinothéque.  A small producer who tenders around six hectares of biodynamically farmed plots around the village of Rosheim in Alsace.  His plots hold no expectations that Grand Cru classified fruit would otherwise bring, as there are none around Rosheim.  Yet he still manages to over deliver on quality through tender vineyard management.  Dreyer treads with precision the fine line between the new and exciting, and displaying varietal and terroir characteristics.  The Origin series is all about skin contact whites made from each of the royal Alsatian varieties (Riesling, Gewurz etc).  His Muscat receives around ten to twenty days on skins after harvest and is then transferred into very large old oak foudre, where ferment happens slowly over the winter.  The rich golden colour and rounded texture elevates our perception of what Alsace wine can be.  There’s barrel loads of stone fruits and rich grape character.  A great choice if you’ve got a slice of foie gras and you prefer something fruity yet dry to accompany it.
