Alex Foillard Côte de Brouilly 2020
Talent for winemaking seems to run in the Foillard family. Son of Jean Foillard, Alex builds his wines with a little more structure and darkness than his elder. Alex has experience not only in Burgundy, but also in Japan and Australia. The fruit from Côte de Brouilly is much further south of Crus such as Morgon and is edging towards the Rhône Valley. Hence why we see deep purple hues, dark cherry and blackcurrants, with gritty tannin and funky undergrowth. Still medium weight in style, this wine will smash your slow cooked briskets and smoky pork ribs out of the park. If you’re a lover of Beaujolais and want to show it off to your Shiraz drinking friends, this is the way to go.
