Jules Metras Beaujolais Village Bijou 2020
Bijou is the name given to the vineyard that Jules’ father and winemaking legend Yvon Metras, restored from out the back of their farmhouse in Bize. Fruit from this vineyard makes up large portions of the blend, while fruit from his other two plots in the village of La Chapelle de Guinchay and Lancie makes up the rest. Fruit is picked late, cooled and sealed in concrete vats to start a long and slow process of natural fermentation. It has an almost aperitif like character. It’s light, with crunchy red fruits, florals and tight mineral acid. 2020 was a pretty hot year for the region, but Jules’ wine have plenty of poise along with the power.
