If you’re after something really elegant and velvety, that’s full and fruity without being weighed down by hefty oak, then take a look a this Shiraz from Christian Lericq. His vines are located in the village of Tournon in the Saint Joseph appellation. They sit atop a hefty slope, where Christian tends his tiny production by hand. There’s very minimal intervention in the cellar and a decent amount of carbonic maceration happens. You’ll feel like you’ve discovered something really exciting, but with all small producers there is very little to go around. Drink with cheeses by the fire, because it doesn’t need much else!
