Matassa Olla Blanc 2023
Tom Lubbe has risen to cult status in the low intervention wine community in recent years. A New Zealander by birth, he pioneered the natural movement in South Africa, followed by a move to the South-West of France with his wife to continue his journey. His relatively tiny 15 hectare production around the village of Calce is highly sought after, as it showcases up-front fruit with finesse and savoury texture. The Blanc is a fifty-fifty blend of Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains and Macabeu. Spontaneous ferment happens in concrete, while the skins are left to macerate for a week, emboldening the texture and spice. A seriously slurpable white that lasts a long time on the palate but not long on the shelves.
