Château La Colombière Les Frontons Flingueurs 2020
In terms of price to quality ratio (if such a thing exists in wine), the South-West of France has got you covered. Spanning the length of the coast from the tip of the Spanish border, all the way to Montpellier and beyond, the region is a veritable fruit-basket of varieties and styles. Fronton sits just North of Toulouse and is home to the Négrette variety. Diane and Philippe Cauvin of La Colombière manage these ancient vines, some of which are pre-phylloxera. They are certified biodynamic and they vinify based on where the plots are located. They add nothing and take nothing away in the winery. We love the pure black fruits and peppery characters, it’s striking and bold without being confected or overpowering. It goes so well with what the South-West has to offer in the kitchen – think Salade Landaise (duck foie gras and breast) or maybe some Toulouse sausages with pepper sauce.
